Asbestos Inspection FAQs

What is an ACP5?

An ACP5 is the Asbestos Assessment Report issued by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), verifying your project is free from asbestos. Required by New York City Local Law 76/85, this investigation ensures no asbestos is present in materials that will be disturbed during construction. You must include the ACP5 with signed and sealed drawings in any construction package filed with the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB). Before starting construction, an asbestos inspection is often required.

How fast can I receive my ACP5?

You can typically receive your ACP5 within 48 hours of the inspection. Ensuring your construction drawings are ready for review will expedite the process. If you need it sooner, we offer expedited inspections for an additional fee.

How long does an asbestos inspection take?

Most inspections take less than an hour, although the duration can vary depending on the size of the project.

Who needs to be present at the inspection?

Only the inspector needs to be present. However, you may choose to have the client, architect, engineer, or construction manager attend as well.

What happens during the inspection?

Before the inspection, the inspector reviews the construction drawings, focusing on the demolition plans to identify areas to be disturbed. The inspector then determines the number of samples needed and collects them by probing select areas. These samples are sent to our certified laboratory partners for analysis.

How will I receive the ACP5?

After a successful inspection with no asbestos found, you will receive a digital copy of the ACP5 via email. Original, signed, and stamped copies will be sent for filing with the DOB. If you have any questions, our support and fulfillment team is here to help.

What happens if asbestos is found?

If asbestos is detected, the report will detail the contamination locations and the amounts present. Our team will guide you through the options for asbestos abatement.

Where do you conduct inspections?

We conduct inspections in all five New York City boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island), Nassau County, and select cities in the Hudson Valley.
